Skincare for men can seem overwhelming. You see what some women do and wonder, is all of this really necessary? Or is it just a waste of time and money? As men, we often think skincare is complicated, expensive, and not for us. But here's the truth: it doesn’t have to be complicated and yes, it is worth it.
I only discovered skin care myself a few years ago after losing my wife to cancer. That’s why I started Australiana Botanicals. But that’s another story for another time. I find myself now taking a little time after my shave to prep my skin for the day. It makes me feel good! I wish I had known about this earlier.
More and more men are starting to see the benefits of skincare, not because we want to look perfect, but because it’s about feeling better about ourselves. And who doesn’t what to keep themselves looking younger than their years. As someone who's spent years in the sun and outdoors, I’ve noticed the toll it has taken on my skin. And I know I’m not alone—men of all ages are beginning to recognize the value of taking better care of their skin.
So, let’s keep it simple. Skincare doesn’t need to be a chore or something you dread. You only need three key products to keep your skin in top shape: a cleanser, an anti-aging serum, and a moisturizer. These basics are all you need to start seeing results without complicating your routine. This only takes a few minutes. Seriously, less than five. Here are the three steps.
1. Cleanser: This is your first line of defense against dirt, oil, and all the stuff your skin picks up throughout the day. A good cleanser will leave your skin feeling fresh and clean without stripping away its natural moisture. Just wash your face twice a day—morning and night—and you’re already ahead of the game.
2. Anti-Aging Serum: As we age, our skin needs a little extra help to stay firm and smooth. That’s where serums come in. Good ones are packed with botanical ingredients and anti-oxidants that nourish and protect, targeting signs of aging like fine lines and dark spots. Just a little every day can make a noticeable difference, keeping your skin looking healthier and younger.
3. Moisturizer: Moisturizing is crucial. A simple, non-greasy botanical moisturizer (avoid the chemical based ones) will lock in hydration, soothe your skin, and protect it from the elements. It’s the final step that seals in all the good stuff from your earlier preparation and keeps your skin balanced.
Remember, skincare isn’t just about how you look; it’s also about how you feel. It is self-care, and it’s not just for women. We men deserve to feel good about ourselves too. Our routines don’t have to be extravagant or complicated to be effective. In fact, the simpler your skincare routine the better. You’re more likely to stick with it, see results, and actually enjoy the process.
So, don’t let the noise of complicated skincare routines keep you from taking care of yourself. Start simple. Use a cleanser and a moisturizer. That’s it. Enjoy the process, take pride in it, and watch as your skin—and your confidence—improves. And if you like what it does you can add a serum. But any more than that is not necessary. You just don’t need a dozen products to look and feel your best. Many women overload their skin unnecessarily, waste money and get negative results anyway. You don't want that.
And avoid the "women only" products. Men usually don't like the feminine fragrances and the geasy feel, which is so common to most. Choose either a "men only" or a "gender neutral" line. The downside of "men only" products is that they are often "woodsy" scented, or fragranced with what some skin company thinks a man should smell like. We make gender neutral products which mean they are very lightly scented, naturally, by the fruits we use and are enjoyable to both genders.
So, what’s the verdict? Is skincare for men worth it? Absolutely, “yes”. It certainly is for me. And if skin care and self-care makes you happy, confident and lifts you up, then I say “go for it”.
Personally, I use our Simplicity Men’s set, which includes the Lemon Aspen Citrus Wash in the shower, topped off by our signature face cream, the Kakadu Plum & Wild Fragonia moisturizer. Sometimes I supplement that with the Lemon Myrtle serum. Works great, smells great, non-greasy and I’m done in one or two minutes. Check it out.
Bye for now.
